When the Spanish Civil War broke out, Marzani left Oxford to participate as a volunteer in the Spanish Republican Army. In 1936 he received a Moody fellowship to Oxford University. In 1935, he graduated summa cum laude from Williams College with a BA in English. He began writing and became the editor of the school's literary magazine. There, Marzani became a socialist and joined the League for Industrial Democracy. He graduated from high school in 1931 with a scholarship to Williams College. Carl entered the first grade at the age of twelve, not knowing English. The family immigrated to the United States in 1924 and settled in Scranton, Pennsylvania. On a side note back to the Aussie lace sheoak, if that said piece of lumber has shown dimensionally stability (observed with a bare minimum of a 4 full season cycle)- I would never use it and slate it for a build.
